Religious and Cultural Holidays

Major Religious Holidays

In an effort to respect all faiths and cultures, we encourage you to use this calendar as a resource when planning classroom, academic, and co-curricular events.

When scheduling tests, deadlines, events, or activities, it is important that we reasonably accommodate our university community for observance of their religious holidays. It is against federal law to discriminate on the basis of religious or spiritual beliefs.

Important Considerations

  • Some religious communities limit or avoid the use of technology during holy days. Such technology includes but is not limited to the use of virtual learning platforms.
  • Many Baha’i, Judaic, and Islamic observances begin at sundown and end at sundown on the dates listed.
  • Many practices may include fasting or other food-based restrictions that may impact work or academic performance.
  • Not all holy days in every religious and spiritual tradition are included in the above-linked calendar. Due to regional differences, some dates may vary.

Religious Accommodation(s) for Students

UNC Charlotte is committed to nondiscrimination and inclusiveness and to supporting its students, regardless of religious affiliation or non-affiliation, in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.

University Policy 409: Religious Accommodation for Students outlines institutional policy and procedures for related academic accommodations. Questions regarding the implementation of this policy may be directed to the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX at 704.687.6130 or civilrights-titleix@charlotte.edu.
